Preparing Future First Responders Through Functional Training

Last Sunday, Frontline Functional Lab was proud to welcome the Police Training Vancouver group for a special training session led by Coach Mikey. This motivated group is made up of individuals preparing for future careers in law enforcement, putting in the work now to be ready for the physical and mental demands of the job.

The Police Training Group is not affiliated with any police department, but plays an important role in the community by providing free, community-based POPAT training for aspiring officers. Their sessions are hosted out of Empire Field, creating an accessible and supportive environment for those pursuing a career in public service.

Introducing Functional Training

During the session, Coach Mikey introduced the group to Functional Training and how it can effectively supplement their existing police-specific training. Functional training focuses on real-world movement patterns, building strength, endurance, coordination, and resilience that directly translate to physical performance on the job.

For future law enforcement officers, this type of training is especially valuable. It helps improve:

  • Overall strength and conditioning

  • Injury prevention and durability

  • Cardiovascular fitness under fatigue

  • Confidence in physical performance

Inside the Workout

The session followed a well-rounded and engaging structure designed to challenge and motivate the group:

  • Dynamic Warm-Up to prepare joints and muscles

  • A Fun Game to build teamwork and elevate energy

  • Strength Portion focused on foundational movements

  • WOD (Workout of the Day) to test conditioning and mental grit

The atmosphere was high-energy, supportive, and focused, exactly the kind of environment that helps individuals push past limits and grow together as a team.

Training Beyond the Gym

At Frontline Functional Lab, we believe functional fitness goes beyond just workouts, it’s about preparing people for the demands of real life and real careers. Working with groups like Police Training Vancouver aligns perfectly with our mission to support those who serve the community and those preparing to do so.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of their journey and look forward to more collaborations like this in the future.
